Luncheon with Graeme Morton
The Canadian Club of Chicago
&
The Scottish Business Forum of
The Illinois Saint Andrew Society
Invites you to join us for a
Luncheon presentation by Graeme Morton, MA, PhD (Edinburgh)
Scottish Studies Foundation Chair at the University of Guelph
Upwards of 4 million Canadians can claim Scottish heritage. Since they first arrived on Canada's eastern coast, the Scots have played an influential role in Canadian commerce, politics and industry. Attracted by the political freedoms in Canada, many became politically active or tapped country’s resources as fur traders and explorers. Some became Canadian historical figures, such as Alexander MacKenzie, Sir John A. MacDonald and Simon Fraser. Tough young Highlanders were instrumental in the establishment of the Hudson's Bay Company.
Dr. Morton will be discussing his role and work as Chair of Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph, the history and development of Tartan Day, and Scottish contributions to life in North America.

Also the Pacific Gateway transportation corridor is being developed between Prince Rupert, British Columbia and Chicago, resulting in a significant improvement in freight traffic.

Chicagourmets Canadian Dinner
THE SEAFARING TASTE OF CANADA
WILL SAIL INTO DON’S FISHMARKET
GRILL ON NOVEMBER 2
IN TANDEM WITH THE CANADIAN CLUB AND CHICAGOURMET
A seaworthy menu of superb Canadian seafood will be offered on November 2 when Don’s
Fishmarket Grill features "The Seafaring Taste of Canada" held in tandem with the Canadian
Club of Chicago, Chicagourmet and the Canadian Woman’s Club. Don’s Fishmarket Grill, a
hallmark of fine seafood dining on the North Shore since 1973, will present a diverse menu of
Canadian specialties from many areas of Canada including House-Smoked Salmon
Gravlox from Nova Scotia, Shrimp from New Brunswick and Walleye from Manitoba.
And, although the focus is great Canadian seafood, no Canadian culinary menu would be complete without a
flight of award-winning Qu*bec cheeses. Dinner will be complemented by a selection of Canadian,
French and Illinois wines
Don’s Fishmarket Grill is located at 9335 Skokie Blvd, Skokie, IL—just off the Edens
Expressway. The reception will begin at 6:30 PM with Dinner at 7 PM.
The Dinner will also feature a brief commentary on the Cuisine of Canada
by representatives of the Canadian Consulate-General in Chicago and the Quebec Delegation Chicago.
To explore the subtleties of the Canadian ice wines and the award-winning wines from Lynfred
Wineries from Illinois, Fred Lynfred from Lynfred Wineries will speak as well.
Planned by General Manager Domingo Chavez and Executive Chef Dave van Dornick, the
Tastes of Canada will feature:
Appetizers:
House-Smoked Salmon Gravlox from Nova Scotia. (Frexinet Sparkling Wine from France
Don’s Fishmarket Chowder served with their special Bialy Bread.
Don’s Fishmarket Salad, heaped with New Brunswick Shrimp and Bleu Cheese, in a White
Vinaigrette Sauce. (Lynfred Vindy City White – Roselle, IL)
Entree:
Grilled Walleye from Manitoba, pecan-crusted and oven-roasted with Romesco sauce, sauted
spinach and olive-caper relish. (Chardonnay – Simi, California)
Dessert:
A Flight of Award-Winning Qu*bec Cheese ( Award-winning, Neige Apple Ice wine by Face Cach*e de la Pomme)
Skillet Blueberry Cobbler with Homer’s Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
Don’s Fishmarket Grill has been recognized by both regional and national media for its diverse
maritime menu, offering seafood from many oceans of the world. For the Taste of Canada, the
emphasis will be on Canada’s fine seafood drawn from its cold and pure waters.
The Canadian Club, founded in 1942, has become a Mecca for both Canadians and friends of
Canada, who welcome their culture, trade, business ties and fine cuisine of our Northern
neighbor. Events such as trade seminars, sporting events and now – a Taste of Canada – will
increase awareness of what this richly diverse and welcoming nation North of our borders will
offer.
The Dinner will be held in the recently renovated Grill with its subtle colorations, maritime
accents, and roaring fireplace—perfect for a mid-Autumn dinner.
This lavish dinner is priced at just $55 per person. To make reservations, call Chicagourmet at
708/383-7543 and sample the luscious seafood of the Canadian waters.

Monsieur Chopin The Canadian Club of Chicago invites you to enjoy an evening with Canadian actor, Hershey Felder, in his new production:
Monsieur Chopin
Starring
Hershey Felder of Toronto
This new play written by Hershey Felder features the romantic story and music of the Polish pianist-composer Frederic Chopin. Monsieur Chopin will teach a piano lesson that actually took place on March 4, 1848, just days after the February 1848 revolution. As the piano lesson unfolds at his salon at 9 Square d'Orleans in Paris, he reveals secrets about the art of piano and composition, as well as secrets about himself. Considered by his contemporaries, and now by history, as the true "Poet of the Piano," Monsieur Chopin features some of his most beautiful and enduring music.
